FULL MAINTENANCE LEASE (FML)
The Full Maintenence Lease (FML) product focuses on usage as opposed to ownership of a vehicle or selected heavy industrial equipment, with a vehicle being defined as a motor vehicle, a light delivery vehicle or a forklift. If the main aim of the client is usage as opposed to ownership then an Operating Lease or a Full Maintenance Lease is the correct product for the client.
The main difference between these two products and an Instalment Sale is OWNERSHIP. In the case of an Operating Lease or a Full Maintenance Lease the ownership vests with the financier but in the case of an Instalment Sale ownership vests with the client. This leads to different treatment in the accounting and tax arenas.
The monthly repayments are less under an Operating Lease or a Full Maintenance Lease compared to the monthly repayments in the case of an Instalment Sale due to the Residual Value (RV) which risk is carried by the financier.
